Robotic Gecko "Speedy Freelander"

It is one of the human dreams to climb like a gecko.

  • Speedy Freelander climbs glass wall
  • Speedy Freelander moves on the ceiling and avoids obstacle.
  • Speedy Freelander climbs tall building

In 2000, NCA started the project "Robotic Gecko". Our engineers found the application of an interesting scientific phenomenon in Nature, which is the Attachment of the Third Kind. With a different principle and technique, in 2008, we successfully built the first engineering demonstrator of Robotic Gecko, "the Speedy Freelander". Different from extensive applications of physical attachment (e.g. Van der Waals forces) and chemical attachment in previous studies on bionic climbing robots, project "Robotic Gecko" managed to find a possible way to further develop the commercial application potentials from robotic gecko and bionic materials.
