In 1992-1994, Dr. Danny H. Y. Li, chief designer of NCA, was a postgraduate student at Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He worked together with Professor Mr. Zhao Yong, successfully developed and tested their solar powered UAV aircraft "Soarer". "Soarer" was the first solar powered UAV record in China's aviation industry and had been awarded a patent.
During 2000-2002, NCA developed "Green Pioneer", an integrated-wing solar powered aircraft with optimized aerodynamic design. After successfully completing its test flight, NCA received the patent for this integrated-wing solar power UAV. "Green Pioneer" has a special structure, whose large wing area helps to improve the collection of solar energy. Compared with other solar powered aircraft designs, besides its larger area for more solar energy collection, NCA's integrated-wing solar power UAV "Green Pioneer" also has more advantages, for example, more stability, and greater maneuverability, etc.
